the path of Ramani
Have you ever asked yourself who is the coder behind the neo template? I guess not for you may be too busy trying your hands on them codes. Fair enough! But, if you do find yourself with some time and, wanting to know more than what the profile says, the following interview I have had with Ramani may be helpful.
But first, let's go over some facts.
Hackosphere has been spawned in July 2006. Two months and a few hacks later, it has been featured in Blogs of Note: September 2006. How's that for a feat, huh? Chapeau to yee Ramani! Since then, the latter has been delivering a number of hacks to us - readers and followers of his blog! Hackosphere boasts of hits from all over the world and is currently ranked at 2,774 (subject to change) in technorati. Many of his hacks like peekaboo and the recent neo template (first blogged here) are quite popular.
So, who is the mane behind the avatar?
W - Waz
R - Ramani
W: Who is the real Ramani? (other that what has been said in the profile section)
R: I am a person with changing interests, restless and sometimes, lazy person. I am married and I have a small kid.
W: What's a typical day for Ramani?
R: It's the same typical day as that of every software engineer.
W: What's your goal in life?
R: To retire early and work on things that I am interested in and not what my manager wants me to.
W: What will be some of your hobbies?
R: Apart from hacking (which is itself like my hobby), I like watching TV. Things like books, sports don't fit my lifestyle.
W: Let me guess for favorite movie, MATRIX! lol what's special about MATRIX? Are you trying to escape to real world? :P
R: No, I am trying to escape FROM the real world :) Even at hackosphere, I offer only blue pill, not red pill.
W: Are you originally from the USA?
R: No. I came to US from India. US is definitely the Land of opportunity.
W: Do you see yourself as a geek? What is your definition of a geek?
R: Yes. Anybody who spends 40 hours a week with code and still wants to do more coding in weekends too - isn't he crazy enough to be called a geek?
W: Has it always been your dream to be in software development? how is it to be in software development?
R: It used to be my dream when I was in high school. But having been in this field for about 10 years, it's getting boring if I do the same kind of thing over and over again.
W: Can you tell us for which company you work?
R: It's a networking company. That much I can say.
W: Is there any software you have helped to develop that we know of?
R: I guess not.
W: I know that sounds crazy, but when you are going through a code do you feel as if it talks to you? :P
R: Sometimes I have felt like that but it would actually be my wife who was talking when I was immersed into the code :)
W: IE vs. Mozilla vs. Safari vs. Other?
R: Firefox. IE sucks.
W: Google vs. Microsoft?
R: Google
W: Ramani in ten years?
R: Good question. I am trying to figure that out myself.
W: What has motivated you into blogging and sharing those hacks with bloggers?
R: From my school days, I have been sharing my knowledge with friends. Only with sharing, knowledge becomes useful.
W: Why blogger? why not wordpress or typepad?
R: I thought Blogger was being used by most people around the world.
W: Are you contributing to BloggerHacks?
R: Yes, I added my hacks there.
W: For a non-initiate, why do we have to bother about those hacks?
R: You don't have to. But, people have a personal attachment to their blogs and so they want to embellish it with all sorts of hacks.
W: There are so many who associate blogging with journalism or who take everything that has been blogged seriously while most of us bloggers (well, those I blog hop to) are into blogging to keep in touch with friends/ relatives or for a laugh ( i.e. recreation). For a non-blogger, how will you best define a blog?
R: It could be many things for many people. After all, it's just another medium to express your thoughts.
W: Concerning O'Reilly's Call for a Blogger's Code of Conduct , what's your opinion?
R: He is taking it too seriously.
W: Some bloggers out there have a very high opinion of themselves and keep bashing the rest of us for our "poor" english or mundane thoughts, will you be one of them?
R: No. I believe in the freedom of people to write whatever they want.
W: Have you ever met someone in real life who recognises you as Ramani from Hackosphere?
R: No. That would be really wierd. I may not talk that well with words like I do with code.
W: Blogging (or the web in general) in ten years?
R: Needs some communities to bring out the best out of it.
Thanks Ramani! Keep them hacks, coming! :)
